Beautiful #KZNMidalnds – Christmas Cheer from @CowanHouseKZN

Big up Cowan House.

You bring so much joy to so many people.

We are so proud to be a part of the Cowan House Family.

Donnette #Randomness

Cowan HousePreparatory School is set amidst hectares of beautiful landscape atop the mist belt in Hilton, in the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. On entering the premises, and meeting the personnel, one immediately gets the feeling of all encompassing, nurturing love, a home away from home, a safe haven for our beloved children.

There was no question in my mind that this is what I wanted for Aiden, who commenced his education at age 2, diligently bashing away at his computer. Shortly into the grade 1 year it became abundantly clear that with my having returned to my former career full time, but still writing, researching and publishing, I would not be doing my son justice in continuing with his home education, due to severe time constraints. I just would not be able to give him the attention he had been exposed to previously. His interview with Cowan House was almost immediate…

‘Money, power, respect’: the Constitution’s foundational values (and yes, the title of a hip-hop song) | Daily Maverick

Filed under: Uncategorized — Donnette E Davis @ 10:39 am

I found a very interesting article which anyone with an interest in South African Education in every respect might like to read. In it, is clearly states what we all think we know… well we all think we know it all… clearly there are shortcomings.

The Rule of Law and Separation of Powers. Moving from the history of the creation of the Constitution we focus on its very fundamental role in defining how power is attributed.

I found a very interesting article which anyone with an interest in South African Education in every respect might like to read.  In it, is clearly states what we all think we know… well we all think we know it all… clearly there are shortcomings.

It is crucial that learners and educators, school governing bodies and/or their representatives, understand that the Constitution is the supreme law of the country and that nobody is above the law – concepts which may seem obvious but really are not, at least to them. It has been troubling to see how children perceive how power is distributed in South Africa, sometimes painting a picture more akin to an absolutist state than to a…

Christian Principles and chaos @GraceCollegeKZN When it’s all about the money @KingBiyela

Labelled as a “Christian” school based on God’s Word and teachings, Grace College in Hilton, Kzn, with 307 pupils registered at the beginning of 2013, comes across as just that on first meeting.   A small, loving, committed and Christian family, where the student will be kept safe, be nurtured and receive quality education, all under the banner and the teachings of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Excerpt from

Grace College is a school that believes God sent His only son into this world to give us a chance of everlasting life. To all those who choose Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, God promises a new life on earth and an eternal life after death. What a joy and privilege it is to share and model this truth in our school community.

Revision Universe Newsletter Edition 9

September 3, 2013

Dear Subscribers,

This is the ninth edition of the Revision Universe Newsletter. The main topic for this week is our new guest blogger Donnette Davis!

Donnette is an experienced educational blogger and writer who has written numerous articles for various educational sites and organisations around the net. However, she also is involved thoroughly outside of education in athletics, especially, long-distance and marathon running.

Currently based in South Africa, Donnette has amassed an amazing twitter following of 17,487 (at the time of writing) and is frequently contacting and discussing new ideas amongst educators around the world.

Donnette is the creator of the St Aidens Homeschool website on which there are hundreds of fantastic resources for students in Primary Education. The aim of the St Aidens Homeschool website is to combat the rising costs and lack of security/safety in South African education. These factors make good, safe education very expensive and hard to find. Nevertheless, Donnette and her colleagues have made a superb site which is helping students all over South Africa.

Visit our blog on Friday to see the first of Donnette’s guest blog posts. Make sure you don’t miss out!

Assets seizure application to pay teacher salaries #SouthAfrica #Education

Filed under: Uncategorized — Donnette E Davis @ 5:35 am

Assets seizure application to pay teacher salaries
An application for the seizure of the assets of the Eastern Cape Education Department has been made by the Legal Resources Centre, which wants the proceeds to be used to pay teachers. It has asked that the assets used by Education MEC Mandla Makupula and his head of department, Mthunywa Ngonzo, be attached, notes a report in The Times. As Makupula and Ngonzo yesterday faced this new crisis, the department’s woes worsened with another 13 teachers launching urgent applications for court orders against it, says the report. Sarah Sephton, the centre’s Grahamstown director, confirmed 18 teachers had resorted to issuing a writ of execution, and 13 others were going to court to get their salaries. In June, the centre won a court order that the department pay the outstanding salaries of about 108 teachers. The department paid many of them but 18 have yet to get their pay. They are owed about R619 000, Sephton is quoted as saying. The writ directs the sheriff to attach the department’s assets, including those used by Makupula and Ngonzo. It also directs the sheriff to sell off the goods by public auction to raise the R619 000 owed.
